Stranger than Satire

This is from yesterday’s Independent.

A satirical article discussing the surreal nature of political events, featuring a headline, text from an opinion piece, and commentary on current affairs.

In the blurb for The Orange Man I often use the famous quote from Robin Williams – “People say satire is dead. It’s not dead; it’s alive and living in the White House.”

When I started writing The Orange Man some of my satire felt too close to the bone.  Now, the surreal quality of what currently comes out of the White House can sometimes exceed even the most fervent imagination’s capacity for invention.

But, as we pinch ourselves in disbelief, let us not lose sight of what is happening and the seriousness of it.  Populism is weaponising the anger, frustration and resentment of the dispossessed.
